3.0.16 build 105 is actually a newer firmware than 980, but was designed for 3rd Gen. We haven't tested it on 2nd Gen, but if it seems to be working, there probably isn't a strong reason to change it.
Modifying a 2nd Gen into a 3rd Gen requires making both the hardware modifications noted in this guide and applying the firmware update. Build 105 is only compatible with 3rd Gen (or 1st Gen or 2nd Gen cards modified to become 3rd Gen).
Note that the battery doesn’t need to be removed for the 12th Gen Upgrade Kit installation, as the Mainboard can be replaced while the battery remains in the system.
Note that the routing feature is an L shape in all laptops. The part that makes it look like a triangle in the image is actually a sticker on the cable (no longer present on the Antenna Cables). There should be no risk to the cables in routing as shown in the image, as that is the method we use in production.
11th Gen US/Canada DIY Editions (including the Refurbished versions of those) do not have WiFi pre-installed. WiFi modules are available in the Framework Marketplace: https://frame.work/marketplace/parts
