You can try without it, but I suspect Intel wifi will not work. You will lose Ubuntu functionality such as codecs, and proprietary firmware used to make sure the laptop works well.

Which OS did you create the USB from? Using balenaEtcher - Windows 11 I assume?

May be the USB flash drive is not cooperating. I have burned through more than my share over the years, the symptoms sound about right for this. Brand new would be one option. Second option is to test against Fedora's Media Writer. You can use it for Ubuntu. Great question. No OS is needed to get into the boot menu or BIOS. Hovering your finger over the F12 or F2, the moment before you see the Framework logo appear, when it the backlight comes on for a split second at a black screen, tap the key like you're keeping beat with music.

I'd be happy to take a look if you can point our where the incoming sources are and what the failed links happen to be.
