    • Slide the Expansion card into the bay, pushing until it clicks.

    • The first few times you insert or remove a card, it'll take a little more force.

    • Connect the USB-C cable from the Power Adapter into the USB-C Expansion Card. Connect the AC Cable to a power source.

    • The Framework Laptop ships in a mode where the battery is disabled until power is first plugged in, so you really do have to plug in power at this step!

I am not able to remove the expansion card after the first installation

  5. Turn the Framework Laptop over and open it.
    • Turn the Framework Laptop over and open it.

    • Power on the laptop by pressing the power button, and get ready to start using your Framework Laptop!

    • The first boot may take a bit longer (10-30 seconds) while the system recalibrates the installed memory.

the power button light turns on, but nothing else happens with the unit. I will let it charge awhile to see if that helps. Dennis

Did I damage my hardware at all by accidentally plugging the power cord into the wrong USB-C expansion?

Power can be plugged into any of the four Expansion Card bays through a USB-C Expansion Card.

Hi Nirav Patel, thanks for quick reply.

Solved! (Seems; I was not patient enough, I should read more tutorials, sorry!)

In knowledge base I found tutorial for this “not powering on” issue (“reset mainboard”) . The first thing with the two power supplies ( stupid one right, original one left) did not work, however removing coin cell and battery worked as described. Coin cell was down to 0.7 Volts (instead 3V). Charged laptop overnight. Today Laptop is booting as it should. (Many times due to update to Win 11 ;-))

Same here. One of these guides said to check the touchpad cable so I removed then replaced it but no dice. Still no signs of life.

I am running into the same issue above

I am unable to achieve this step, I’ve step up everything and when I plug in the cord the light doesn’t turn on and when I hold down the button nothing happens.

I’ve attempted going in to the computer and unplugging and plugging back in the battery back and nothing has worked.

I believe the power of mode is stuck on? Or something along those lines I’m not sure, but it is not charging.

    any advice would be appreciated.

  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up Windows and log in.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to set up Windows and log in.

    • Once you are set up, make sure to run Windows Update to get the latest security and functionality updates from Microsoft.

    • We also recommend updating to the latest BIOS and Drivers for the Framework Laptop to make sure the system runs optimally.

After attaching to WiFi wait for about 30 minutes before pressing the next button. Apparently the computer has a lot of stuff to attend to before recognizing that you have a WiFi connection.

How to remove a USB-C expansion card.

Manuel de Francisco Fabre - Reply

The default card, supporting USB4, 20V/5A charging, and DisplayPort Alt Mode for connecting monitors, all on either side of the notebook.

Does the USB-C together with AMD 7040 Framework Laptop support USB4 Data + 100W + DisplayPort Alt Mode all at once? I would like to connect the laptop to the external monitor, charge it from the monitor, use data devices connected to the monitor, all through the single cable between the monitor and the laptop.

I forgot to get a USB-C expansion card, but I do have USB-A. Can I charge the laptop with a USB-A connection?

Chad C - Reply

the USB-A port is not configured to allow charging of laptop. Also, if it was....would be too slow...per USB-A specs.
